Watch Paul Mescal Perform A Contemporary Dance Routine Inspired By 2020

'This project took me totally out of my comfort zone as I am not a dancer...'

Paul Mescal is flexing his dancing skills in a new partnership with Samsung Spotlight.

Performing a contemporary 90 second routine, the Normal People star went through the stages of 2020 by dancing – creating a beautiful short film titled “Lockdown”.

The artistic piece sees Paul moving through a room with mannequins, capturing the mood of a tumultuous year – and yep, we can confirm that Paul can in fact, dance.

I mean, he is now officially the triple threat. We’ve seen him act – hat tip to Connell Waldron for the stardom, leading him to land ‘Breakthrough Actor of the Year’. We’ve seen him sing on the piano (even Sia was shook!) And now, we’re seeing him dance.

Admitting that he’s not a dancer, Paul did add that it was incorporated into his acting training at Dublin’s The Lir and he loved it.

“Movement is something I loved doing at drama school, and something I’ve missed since entering the industry.”

The whole project took three days to film at a warehouse, with Paul under the watchful eye of Strictly choreographer Richard Marcel.

Continuing that this project with Samsung Spotlight is also very close to his heart. Paul explained that the initiative was launched to champion emerging creatives in the arts and provide a platform for them to showcase their skills and talents in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“There are thousands of performers in the arts industry that have been affected by the closures of theatres, venues and stages who have and are going through an incredibly challenging time.

“I’m really proud to launch Samsung Spotlight which aims to help performers by giving them a platform to showcase their talents. I can’t wait to see what type of performances people come up with and I’m looking forward to judging the entries,” Paul continued.

More dance videos, please. We want to have the moves like Mescal.
