Prince Harry Says That Living In London Was ‘Destroying His Mental Health’ In Candid Chat
The royal caught up with James Cordon on The Late Late Show.
An appearance we never saw coming, James Cordon had Prince Harry on the show for a 17-minute segment which was filmed before Harry and Meghan confirmed they won’t be returning to their royal roles, getting stripped of all patronage.
Just days before the pair’s apparent ‘tell-all’ with Oprah, Harry confirmed that moving to Santa Barbara was a necessary move for the pair and their family. With Meghan now expecting the couple’s second child, Harry admitted that he needed to do what any man or father would do, protect his family.
‘It was never walking away. It was stepping back rather than stepping down,’ explains Harry. ‘It was a really difficult environment, which I think a lot of people saw. So I did what any father or husband would do and thought: “How do I get my family out of here”. But we never walked away and as far as I’m concerned, whatever decisions are made on that side, I will never walk away.’
Throughout the interview, Harry was clearly beaming. With his now more relaxed lifestyle, the prince sat on an open top bus for the first time, adding that he wasn’t really ‘allowed to’ as a royal, before FaceTiming wife Meghan Markle who calls Harry ‘Haz’ on the call.
In the rare interview, you can really see Harry’s personality shine, laughing and joking with James, even rapping the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme tune outside the OG mansion the show was filmed. While still on the phone to Meghan, the former Duchess of Sussex adds that he’s not allowed to buy the place as she’s “done moving”.
