John Legend Praises His Wife, Chrissy Teigen For Sharing The Story Of Their Pregnancy Loss

Earlier this week singer John Legend appeared on CBS’ This Morning and spoke about he and his wife, Chrissy Teigen’s devastating pregnancy loss last year.

The couple were expecting a little boy, who they named Jack, who sadly passed away due to complications with the pregnancy.

In particular, the singer opened up about his wife’s choice to share the news so publicly afterwards, something which divided opinion at the time.

He shared that he is more private than his wife and was initially a little more reluctant to speak so openly about the loss of Jack; “You know, Chrissy always is more sharing that I am. I’m a bit more private.”

“But what I’ve learned through that process is, first of all, how often this happens to so many other families around the world.”

Continuing he shared that it helped them with the healing process, as well as hopefully helping others come to terms with their loss; “We felt a real sense of community by sharing it with other people. They felt seen by us, we felt seen by them, and I think it helps everyone deal with their grief when they know there are other people out there feeling it too.”

“I am so glad Chrissy’s instinct was to share this, because it was really the right thing to do. I think it helps us get through it, and I think it helped other families going through the same thing get through it. People feel such shame and they feel lonely, and I think we helped people feel less lonely,.”

The couple revealed the sad news that Chrissy had suffered a miscarriage last September, in a heartbreaking Instagram post. This was their third child together and the 34-year-old shared the tragic news with her followers at the time; “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before.”

“We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough. We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack.”

“So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever. To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.”
