4 Reasons You Still Can’t Apply Your Eyeliner Properly

You've followed the tips and you've watched the tutorials, but you still can't seem to get those flicks on fleek. We found out where you're going wrong.

1. You’re using the wrong applicator

Great eyeliner starts with the correct product. Our personal favorite is the felt tip, since it’s easier to wield than a brush version (which requires the steady hands of a neurosurgeon to apply), and it delivers a darker, richer pigment than a marker pen. #result. If you’ve got particularly shaky hands, then make it your go-to choice of liner. We heart MAC Liquid Liner, €19, for drawing a steady line.

2. You’re trying to draw one straight line

Reckon swiping one lengthy line across your lid will get you pro results? Nuh-uh, drawing your line in one go will likely look uneven and wonky. Instead, (gently!) stretch your eyelid at the outer corner so it’s taut. Then start your line at your inner corner and stay as close to your lashes as possible. Instead of drawing one straight line, create a few dashes. Then try to connect them. With practice, you’ll eventually be able to apply it in one quick swipe. Promise! Irish beauty blogger The Make-Up Chair has the technique licked.

3. You’re being too heavy-handed

If you want to create a winged-out effect, flick the line up to the ceiling at the end (yes aim for the skies). The trick is to use a light hand at this point so you don’t end up with panda eyes. If you mess up, don’t beat yourself up, just wipe it off with a cotton bud and some make-up remover and try again!

4. You’re forgetting to blend

Spotted a gap between your liner and lash line? You’ll need to blend, blend, blend for a seamless result. Grab an eyeshadow in a similar colour, and simply fill in the gaps. Easy. We also love Benefit’s They’re Real Push Up Liner, €25, for getting in close to the lash line.
