Cockroach Milk: Here’s Everything You Need To Know About The Gross New Superfood That’s Doing The Rounds

Fad or fridge staple?

Cockroach milk

Just while we were getting used to chugging down our morning shot of apple cider vinegar, a new tonic has been sweeping the beauty and fitness world’s alike.

But unlike the just-about-palatable ACV, this new supplement is a whole lot harder to swallow.

That’s because it comes from the inside of a Pacific Beetle cockroach. No, we’re not kidding.

You’ve got scientists to thank for this bizarre new craze too. They recently discovered that milk from a cockroach has a whole load of nutritive benefits and announced plans to make it into a protein supplement.

Speaking to the The Sun Star, Sanchari Banerjee, who led the study, explains that “The crystals [from cockroach milk] are like a complete food – they have proteins, fats and sugars.

“Cockroaches are infamous for their ability to thrive in any condition surviving without food for a month,” he adds. “Therefore it makes sense that they could produce a formula as protein-rich as this.”

And if you can push the gross factor aside for one sec, it actually sounds like a pretty beneficial beverage.

Milk

For one it’s absolutely chocker with beauty-boosting amino acids and lipids. Add to that, its also got four time’s as much protein as cow’s milk which could make it a fave among fit fammers.

As for the beauty benefits, well those who regularly chug down a glass can expect longer, shiner hair, and faster-growing talons, thanks to all that extra protein.

It makes a deadly post-workout drink too, combining protein to repair the muscles and a high sugar content to quickly aid recovery.

Benefits or not though, there’s no way we’re switching out our protein shakes for something that comes from the inside of cockroach.
