My Daily Beauty Regime: Suzanne Jackson, Blogger & Founder of Beauty Brand SOSU
She's got half a million followers and a sell-out beauty line under her belt. We chatted to super blogger Suzanne Jackson about her daily make-up and skincare routine.
Skincare
“I’m always testing new products so I’m really in tune when it comes to the ingredients that work for my skin and the ones that don’t. I always like to thoroughly test products so that I know exactly what results they can produce. I have had a few bad experiences over the years when it comes to skincare treatments, so as a result my standards are very high when I’m reviewing a new product. This is why, when I find a really good product, I will absolutely shout and scream about it!
“Even though I’m always being introduced to new brands and products, there’s a few firm favourites that I always return to because I know they will never let me down. For instance, the cream cleanser, the enzyme peel, and the pro-collagen marine moisturiser from Elemis are just incredible!
“Similarly, I have been a fan of the Juliette Armand range ever since I reviewed it earlier this year. Last month though, I decided on a change so I started using the Image Skincare Iluma Brightening Exfoliating Powder and the Image Skincare Vital C Serum. I was really taken aback by how good they were. I had tried a product from Image Skincare some time ago but I didn’t like it at all, so I was pleasantly surprised when I tried these two and got great results. I used to be a huge fan of the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant but the exfoliating powder from Image is quite similar, if not better, so at the moment, that product is making an appearance in my skincare regime!
“My morning routine involves cleanser, toner, using a good hydrating serum, moisturiser, SPF, and a good quality eye cream.
“I usually use:
- Declare Gentle Cleansing Milk
- Thalgo Pure Freshness Tonic Lotion
- A Hydrating Serum such as rosehip oil from Trilogy or Kinvara Skincare
- Darphin Hydraskin Rich Moisturiser
- Thalgo Créme Silicium Regard Eye Cream
- Thalgo Oxygen 3 Defense Fluid SPF 15
- Elemis SOS Emergency Cream (I use this if I have a breakout)
At bedtime
“At night, I adapt my routine accordingly. I’m a stickler for removing my make-up before bed. It doesn’t matter how exhausted I am, the make-up comes off before I hit the pillow!
“To cleanse my skin, I again use Declaré Cleansing Milk, though I also love Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. I picked up a travel size in Penney’s for €2.50 before I went to France earlier this year and I was shocked by how good it was!
“Once the foundation is off, I use No.7’s Make-up Remover to take off my mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow. It’s extremely affordable, and SO good for removing heavy eye make-up. It’s very like the Clarins Eye Make-up Remover, but half the price which is always a big bonus! I then pop a few drops of face oil on and massage it into the skin. I LOVE rosehip face oil, and I usually use either the one from Trilogy or Kinvara Skincare. It visibly improves my skin and it’s a really good solution for dehydrated, tired skin, which I sometimes suffer from especially if I have been travelling quite a bit.
“I used to apply the Thavma moisturiser from the Juliette Armand range, but a couple of months ago, after I ran out of it, I decided to use L’Occitane Crème Divine and I have been obsessed with it ever since. It’s so hydrating and really rich too.
“I ALWAYS use an eye cream. The one I swear by and have been using for the past couple of years is the Thalgo eye cream. It’s just so good.
I really liked the Dr Murad range when I reviewed it. I used the Dr Murad Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisture, as well as the Dr Murad Rapid Collagen Infusion, and both produced very impressive results.
Make-up
“Like most girls, my make-up routine depends on where I’m going and how long I have for getting ready! When heading out for the night, I love the super glam make-up look. Fake eyelashes, set curls, the lot!
“When it comes to foundations, I’m a massive fan of Make Up Forever’s HD Foundation. I use shade 123. If I need an extra bit of coverage, then I will also apply Make Up For Ever’s Ultra Invisible Cover Stick Foundation over the HD foundation. My choice of foundation depends on the season. Obviously in summer, I go for more of a darker sun-kissed shade whereas in winter, I’ll opt for a lighter shade with emphasis on good coverage. This winter, I love Armani’s Luminious Silk Foundation and Stila’s Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer.
“The Stila one offers amazing coverage but it’s quite matte. I don’t mind though because I that’s where my highlighters come in handy! Anyone who knows me knows that I am mad about highlighters and creating that dewy look! To do this, I use MAC Strobe Cream under my foundation and MAC Soft & Gentle over it. More often than not, I will also dust on some Mary Loumanizer highlighter from theBalm.
“My mascara favourites regularly change as I am always trying out new ones, but one product that really impressed me this year was the No7 Dramatic Lift Mascara. The No7 range has been a big favourite of mine for years now because their products are consistently so good. Rimmel’s Scandal Eyes Mascara is another one I use regularly.
“For eyeliner I really like Glam Eyes from Rimmel or the gel liner from Inglot. I like to give my eyes an almond shape by winging out my eyeliner in a certain way. I keep the line quite slim before thickening it slightly near the edge of the eye. I always find it’s a great way to accentuate the eyes. If I’m using the gel liner, then I’ll paint the line on using my Deluxe eyeliner brush from my SoSueMe Crownbrush UK collection.
“To style my brows, I quite like Benefit’s Gimme Brow but my favourites regularly change as I am always trying out new products. Earlier this year I tested the Gelux Eyebrows from Cailyn Ireland and the semi-permanent brow kit from BPerfect and they seriously impressed me so I still use them.
“When it comes to lipsticks, I love brands such as MAC, Rimmel and NYX. Anyone who has been following my blog knows that my recent favourite is my YSL Rouge Le Orange lipstick. Pricey but worth every cent!”
