Want Volumised Waves Like Cassie’s? Here’s Her Seriously Budget-Friendly Hair Hack
Xposé presenter Cassie Stokes is well used to glam squads, having spent a large chunk of the last seven years on air for TV3 and Canada’s Entertainment Tonight.
But even the most seasoned showbiz gal can’t resist a bit of pampering, and Cassie was only delighted to hand her hair and beauty responsibilities over to STELLAR’s hair and makeup team for her shoot, shot on location in Peruke and Periwig, in our September issue (on shelves now, FYI).
So what went down on the day? We got the deets from makeup artist Ashley O’Rourke and hairstylist Jessica Dunne. Read on for their hero products, plus Jessica’s hair-volumising trick that involves nothing more than a brush and one under-a-fiver product.
Makeup
Ashley created a gorgeous dewy base for Cassie, with light contouring and muted brows. The showstopper? A glam AF smokey eye.
“Cassie has amazing skin, so was a dream to work on,” the MUA admits. Read on for Ashley’s wonder products for the shoot…
Prep
“I prepped Cassie’s skin with just a light moisturiser and a little bit of Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonder Glow,” says Ashley.
Base
“For an even skin tone, I used Light Wonder Foundation from Charlotte Tilbury, followed by a dash of Makeup Forever’s Ultra HD Concealer under the eyes and around the nose. Over this I applied a light dust of Velvet Finish Powder from Makeup Forever to set.”
Contour
Ashley kept things simple, relying on Cassie’s natural bone structure rather than over-doing the definition.
“For a light contour, I used the bronzer from Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze & Glow and sweep of blush in Ecstasy across the apples of the cheeks. I try to avoid a strong dramatic contour, as I feel it can take over the face.”
Brows
“I kept Cassie’s brows simple, filling them in slightly with the Grace K pencil in taupe. It’s the perfect shade for lighter eyebrows as it neatly defines them without giving them an over-done look.”
Eyes
The main focus of the look on this shoot was a smoky eye, which Ashley created using a mix of neutrals and deep browns.
“Using the Dolce Vita palette from Charlotte Tilbury I applied a creamy colour as my base and then went for the smokey brown on the lid and beneath the lash line,” she says. “I finished with a sweep of Aqua liner in black from Makeup Forever over the upper lash line, before coating the lashes with The Balm’s Mad Lash.”
Lips
“To complete Cassie’s look I used a duo of products on the lip,” says Ashley. “I lined with a nude pencil and followed up with Charlotte Tilbury’s Bitch Perfect lipstick. The soft pink is perfect for balancing out a dramatic smoky eye.”
Hair
Relaxed soft waves courtesy of hair queen Jessica were the order of the day for Cassie’s shoot. So how did she create the retro-glam look? Hint: it’s a super simple process!
Prep
“To begin I prepped the hair with Redken’s Pillow Proof Primer,” explains Jessica. “This protects each strand from being damaged by heated styling tools.”
Styling
Jessica then curled Cassie’s hair in sections, away from the face using a GHD rather than a curler.
“Keeping the look laid-back, I brushed each of the curls gently with a Tangle Teezer,” says Jessica, who then ran some VO5 Give Me Texture (just €3.99, btw) through the strands for a final texture boost.
Setting
To avoid any flyaways, Jessica spritzed the hair with Kerastase’s Elixir Hair Oil before finishing with L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray.
