Irish Actress Ruth Negga Is On The Cover Of US Vogue Looking Downright Amazing
She's come a long way from Love/Hate.
Ruth Negga has been working on the Irish and UK acting scene for years, but in recent months she’s become a familiar face Stateside too.
The Irish-Ethiopian actress is known here for her work on Breakfast On Pluto, Love Is The Drug and Love/Hate, and thanks to her role Jeff Nichols’ Oscar-tipped film Loving, she’s just landed the cover of US Vogue. Yup, that US Vogue.
The magazine released the cover image of its January issue on social media today, featuring Ruth clad in a Givenchy tulle top, photographed by none other than Mario Testino.
And here she is killing it in head-to-toe Gucci:
Oh, and Christopher Kane:
The actress, 35, spoke to Vogue about her role in Loving, and growing up with a dual Irish/Ethiopian identity despite not visiting Africa until she was eighteen, to see her father’s grave. “I’m always very careful to say I’m Irish-Ethiopian because I feel Ethiopian and I look Ethiopian and I am Ethiopian. But there are 81 languages in Ethiopia, and I don’t know any of them,” she admits.
As for her new level of fame, Ruth acknowledges that it was all a bit sudden, but says that she knows she’s put enough ground work in to deserve the attention. “I’ve been working. Keeping a low profile—until bam! Nothing slow and steady about me.”
As well as the Vogue cover, Ruth also features on one of four covers for the New York Times Magazine‘s Great Performers issue, alongside Denzel Washington, Emma Stone and Ashton Sanders.
