Avocado Fan? You’ll Adore These Five Healthy & Delicious Recipes
It's one of the healthiest foods around, and also one of the most versatile. From fudgy avo brownies to avocado cocktails, we've found five of the most delish avocado recipes around.
If it’s possible for a fruit to be on trend, then the avocado is definitely in fashion, featuring on pretty much every blog and Instagram recipe as the holy grail of fit food. And why wouldn’t it be, when the humble avo has one of the highest nutritional values of any fruit and veggie; combining a body-loving mix of heart-healthy fats, lotsa fibre, and an abundance of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
With that in mind, we wanted to scoff more of this healthy green, so we scoured our favourite food blogs and cooking websites to find a scrummy mix of sweet and savoury recipes that use the avocado to its full potential.
1. Guacamole
Probably what the avocado is best known for is this mexican dip. Guac is made from a delicious mix of avocados, lime, garlic, and a pinch of salt, and tastes deadly with crisps and chips – or raw veggies if you’re being healthy. Just spoon out the avocado, squeeze the lime juice, chop the garlic and mash together for an instant avo hit. Optional extras include, tomatoes, chillies, onion, and bacon. Pass the Doritos… er, we mean kale chips.
2. Avocado Smoothie
Avocado is a perfect addition to any smoothie. Not only for the nutritional content but for it’s creamy texture. This recipe is a fave of singer Jason Mraz and is seriously delish! You’ll need almond or coconut milk, an apple, a banana, celery, spinach and ginger to make this antioxidant rich blend.
3. Avocado Cocktail
Not as saintly as the smoothie but so worth the sin is this avocado daiquiri. A great one for a ‘healthy’ cocktail night, it’s easy to make with just five ingredients. Or if you’re too lazy to make one yourself, Balfes have an amazing Avocolado (a guilt-free Pina Colada!).
4. Avocado on toast with a twist
Avocado is an excellent toast topping with lots of variations to fill your face with. For the original, just mash an avocado, add salt, pepper, and lemon juice and spread on a toasted bread of your choice. If you’re feeling slightly more adventurous however you can change it up, with egg, bacon, and chive or tomato, basil, and balsamic.
5. Avocado Brownie
In the mood for something sweet? We’ve got you covered. These avocado brownies are so moist and fudgy it’s hard to believe they’re a healthy alternative. The only problem? You’ll need to resist eating the entire batch.
