Thanks To MasterCard, Shopping Through Selfies Is About To Become A Thing
Forget the pesky process of entering your credit card deets. Mastercard has found a fun new way to check out during your next online shop.
MasterCard has just given us one more reason to spend our Saturdays trawling the Topshop website in search of the perfect pair of party heels. That’s cos its trialling new technology that makes buying online items even easier. Using facial recognition technology, MasterCard will let customers take a selfie when paying for their online shopping hauls, instead of entering their login and credit card details, meaning no more of those annoying “incorrect card information” errors. Huzzah.
It’s not just great for those of us who can’t remember our card details though. It’ll also make shopping online more secure. “We want to identify people for who they are, not what they remember,” MasterCard’s Ajay Bahalla told CNN, “The new generation, which is into selfies … I think they’ll find it cool. They’ll embrace it” he said.
Right now, this cool new technology is being trialled with 500 MasterCard customers, and if all goes well we could be snapping pics instead of entering passwords very soon, which is great news for our wardrobes, but, er, not so much for our wallets.
