This Woman Suffered Third Degree Burns After Spilling Costa Coffee On Her Lap And The Photos Are Horrifying

Warning: graphic imagery ahead.

Melissa

Anyone who’s ever suffered a nasty burn or scald will know that its damn painful – and one woman who now knows that excruciating pain all too well is 23-year-old Melissa Postello.

Melissa was on a second date recently when she and her new beau decided to drop by their local Costa coffee drive-thru in Sheffield.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Melissa ordered a cup of tea and noted that the cup was almost too hot to handle when it was passed to her in the car.

Sadly, things went from bad to worse.

“When we took a sharp corner, I lost my grip and the scalding hot tea splashed on me,” Melissa explained. “I remember saying ‘pull over’ and feeling like my legs were on fire.”

The spillage resulted in painful scalds around the tops of Melissa’s thighs and the pics are downright horrifying.

Melissa made her way straight home, and soaked in a bath for 20 minutes before going to A&E. Once there doctors explained that she’d suffered third degree burns and may need skin grafts to repair the damage.

Not surprisingly, Melissa has hit out at Costa over the incident.

She’s since been told by a member of staff that beverages are never served above 92C, despite doctors explaining that her burns were caused by temperatures of 130C or higher.

To make matters worse, the fella Melissa was on a date with wasn’t very sympathetic and simply told her she’d be ‘fine’ while she was screaming in agony. The pair haven’t spoken since.

Speaking of the incident, a spokesperson for Costa has said:

“We were concerned to hear about this incident. At Costa we take the health and wellbeing of our customers very seriously, and as such we are looking into this as a matter of priority.”
