Donut lovers, rejoice!

The Rolling Donut has been serving up sugary bites of deliciousness to tourists and locals alike from its O’Connell St kiosk since 1988, and now it’s about to expand to a second, larger premises just down the street.

Renovations are almost complete on the new location at 34 Bachelor’s Walk, and it looks pretty damn cool.

The store is set to open this Monday May 23rd. That’s only four days away – eeek!

According to Lisa Quinlan, the daughter of the company’s original founder Michael Quinlan, the new premises will be serving up a whole new menu of treats, and will be somewhat separate to the kiosk.

“The kiosk is a different set-up as it makes sugared donuts to order, and they’re best served fresh and hot. Our new store will have a gourmet menu, with our own sourdough and handmade pastry creams, filling and toppings all made in our bakery,” she told Stellar.ie.

A few samples from the menu include a Pistachio Salted Caramel donut with homemade salted caramel, a Peanut Berry Delight with peanut butter pastry cream and a mixed berry compote, and the Molly Malone, an apple and cinnamon donut with biscuit crumble on top.

Er, YUM.

The Bachelor’s Walk store will replace The Rolling Donut’s Aungier St branch, which closed last July after three years.

Inspired by a trip to London to start making donuts here in Ireland, Dubliner Michael Quinlan set up a Rolling Donut stall at the Dandelion Market on Gaiety Green in 1978. Ten years on, he opened the kiosk on O’Connell St which has remained there ever since, with Michael’s daughters Lisa and Aimee on board these days too.

Needless to say, we’ll be first in the queue come Monday…
