Ed Sheeran Reveals The Series Of Heartbreaking Events That Inspired His New Album
His new album is out in May!
Ed Sheeran has announced that his new album will be released on May 5th 2023 and it sounds like an emotional one.
In a new Instagram post, the singer explained that his album Subtract, has been in the works for a “decade”. He said he was “trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album”, but this all changed when a series of events impacted his life substantially.
“Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth. My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly, and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter.
“I was spiralling through fear, depression and anxiety. I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air,” he shared.
Ed welcomed his second daughter with his wife Cherry Seaborn last May.

These heartbreaking events led to him wanting to create an album that was true to his feelings at the time. Speaking about the album he will be releasing, he said, “It’s opening the trapdoor into my soul. For the first time, I’m not trying to craft an album people will like, I’m merely putting something out that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life.”
This is Ed’s fifth album in his mathematical theme with ‘+’ (plus), ‘x’ (multiply) ‘÷’ (divide) and ‘=’ (equals) coming before.
