What Even Is ‘Anti-Botox’ Makeup?
Yes, you heard correctly - wrinkles are trending
Doomscrolling through beauty influencer TikTok and Instagram can sometimes leave us feeling frustrated and upset about your own looks.
Feeds are often saturated with posts that are blemish and wrinkle free, making us feel as though we don’t match the beauty standard, or are unable to recreate because our skin isn’t ‘perfect.’
However, this new viral makeup trend does not require perfect skin. It actually calls for the opposite.
‘Anti-Botox makeup’ and ‘wrinkle makeup’ is the newest trend with makeup artists across social media.
The movement started when Adrianna Kalisz, who is known for her experimental makeup looks on TikTok, took inspiration from Luara Reisinger’s ‘zebra’ lip look.
In anticipation of the Beetlejuice sequel, the makeup artist used Reisinger’s ‘zebra’ technique in order to make a Beetlejuice inspired lip look.
Kalisz’s video went viral and had everyone wanting to recreate the look, which was achieved by first applying a matte liquid lip. Once that has dried, you then pout and scrunch your lips, applying a powder (could be an eyeshadow or blush) in a contrasting colour with a brush.
After you relax your mouth you should be left with a detailed stripey lip look, like so.

However Beetlejuice/zebra lips are not the only look that is part of the trend. Using a very similar technique on your crow’s feet and nose crinkles can create a look that is completely unique and custom to you.

The trend did not get the label ‘Anti-Botox’ however until many renowned members of the online makeup community tried the trend but failed to recreate the look.
Participants of the trend with filler or botox were unable to recreate the look as their lips did not have the creases or wrinkles in order to create the fine stripes that can be made by participants who did not have filler or botox.
It is important to remember that this trend isn’t meant to pass judgement to those who have filler or Botox. Rather it is about celebrating and appreciating features we can feel selfconscious about such as wrinkles.
At the end of the day, as long as you are having fun with your makeup and feel good in your skin, you will be a 10/10!
