Everything Jennifer Lopez Has Said About Her Divorce From Ben Affleck
"It feels lonely, unfamiliar, scary"
Hey now, hey now, don’t dream it’s over…
Except it is, and JLO has spoken about it for the first time.
Jennifer Lopez has been chatting about her recent divorce from Ben Affleck, saying that the entire experience was “f*cking hard.”
Speaking to Interview magazine, she said: “You have to be healthy. You have to be complete, if you want something that’s more complete.
“You have to be good on your own. I thought I learned that, but I didn’t. And then, this summer, I had to be like, ‘I need to go off and be on my own. I want to prove to myself that I can do that’.”
JLO and Ben tied the knot in 2022 after rekindling their romance that ended 17 years previous. They had previously been engaged but never made it to the altar.
The pair filed for divorce in August of this year, after putting their LA home on the market a few months before.
Jennifer said: “It feels lonely, unfamiliar, scary. It feels sad. It feels desperate, but when you sit in those feelings and go, ‘These things are not going to kill me’, it’s like actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself.”
The ‘Get Right’ singer went on to tell the publication what she has learned about love since her split.
“Somebody who truly loves you will help you heal those parts of yourself,” she said. “That’s what I’ve learned about love, that it is a secure thing.
“You make me feel safe, and when I fall short of the glory, you understand me and you help me to grow to be better, because you have your boundaries and I have my boundaries.”
Jennifer and Ben met in 2001 on the set of Gigli. They soon started dating and later announced that they planned to wed in 2003.
Their wedding was postponed due to privacy issues, and they later announced their first split in early 2004.
Ben went on to marry fellow Jen, Jennifer Garner with whom he shares three children. JLO was married three times before she rekindled her romance with Ben, to Marc Anthony, Cris Judd and Ojani Noa.
