How To Embrace Being Pale

Au natural is all the rage.

In an era of instant fake tan, sun beds and bronze goddess-inspired makeup looks, it can sometimes be hard to feel confident in your pale skin.

Tanned skin is gorgeous and there is no doubt that many of us would love to look like we have just spent the last couple of weeks sunning ourselves.

However, for a lot of us, this look is just not always achievable and some tanning methods are not safe for your skin. Therefore it may be time to start embracing our natural beauty.

We have gathered up a few tips to ease you back into your au natural appearance!

Phase it out

We get it, if you have been used to having tanned skin for a long time, jumping straight back to your natural appearance can be daunting.

A great way to start out is by phasing back to a more natural shade. You could go cold turkey or use a more natural fake tan.

For example, the Dove tanning moisturiser is a cult classic and it is super easy to use. This will allow you to have time to adjust to a lighter shade and then eventually going completely natural won’t be as scary.

Instead of tanning your entire body you could also opt for adding some type of bronzing drops into your moisturiser or foundation for a healthy tint and glow. Just make sure to blend it down the neck.

We are currently obsessed with the Drunk Elephant Bronzing Drops.

Who inspires you?

Nowadays it may seem that all your favourite celebrities and influencers are naturally gorgeously tanned. However, it can be super helpful to look for some pale girls in the media who you love as well. This will allow you to have some fashion and makeup inspiration.

If they can do it, why can’t you?

Some of our favourite pale girlies at the moment include the likes of Madeline Argy, Gracie Abrams and Sabrina Carpenter. Queens!

Find the right makeup

It’s time to put away the foundation that’s much too dark for your skin. Finding makeup that matches you will make this journey much easier.

Foundation can cancel out any blue or purple tone in your skin, so a lighter, cool-toned bronzer is essential for pale skin.

If the bronzer is too dark, it can contrast too much. A red-toned blush will work perfectly for this look as well. It’s important to add some colour back into the skin after your foundation to combat looking one-dimensional.

Be kind to yourself

If you struggle with feeling like you look completely different without a tan, it might be helpful to think about a friend after tanning. To you, they most likely look the exact same, just more tanned (it goes both ways!)

Embracing your pale skin might not happen overnight, and that’s okay. Self-love is a journey with ups and downs. Being kind to yourself and repeating positive affirmations can go a long way so keep that in mind.

And remember… If you decide that fake tan is what allows you to feel confident that’s completely okay too! These tips are for anyone looking to embrace their paleness or those who are getting tired of their weekly tanning routine.
