How To Do Your Makeup When Your Skin Is Changing
As we age, our skin changes too
As we age our skin changes. We lose elasticity, gain wrinkles and become prone to dryness. With that, our makeup should change as well.
A few products can go a long way, so it’s time to move away from anything heavy or dry and pick up products that will help the skin to glow and look hydrated.
Here is everything you need to know for a flawless makeup application on more mature skin.
Prep
Skincare will become your best friend as you age, and the most underrated step for a flawless makeup application is actually the preparation that comes beforehand. The best part is – it doesn’t have to be complicated.
Start with a clean base and then 10 minutes before you apply your makeup, use a thick, hydrating moisturiser. This will allow the product time to sink into the skin before you put makeup on top.
Our top pick is the La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 Aquagel which contains SPF 30 so you are also covered for sun protection. If you want to use a hydrating sheet mask once a week for that extra boost, we adore Skin Formulas Hydra Sheet Masks.
The better your skincare is, the less makeup you will need.

Skin Formulas Hydra Sheet Mask – €9
Primer
Primer is an essential step to a long-lasting makeup base. Different primers have different functions, but for mature skin in particular we love a smoothing and glowy primer.
This will help reduce the appearance of any texture on the skin, blur fine lines and give your makeup a gorgeous glowy base to sit on top of.
You want a lightweight formula as heavy formulas can accentuate fine lines and wrinkles, like Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base.

Foundation
When it comes to foundation, super lightweight and dewy is your go-to. Avoid matte formulas as these can accentuate any dryness, or fine lines and look cakey on the skin.
The Sculpted By Aimee HydraTint Moisturising Tinted Serum is absolutely incredible for light coverage and creates a glowy finish. If you would like more coverage opt for the Sculpted By Aimee Second Skin Foundation. Both of these can be applied with a brush or your fingers.

Sculpted By Aimee Second Skin Foundation – €28
Concealer
Many people may be under the impression that as you get older, you need more concealer. However, it’s really the opposite.
There is no way to “cover up” lines on the skin, and too much product will crease the skin and draw more attention to it. Use a tiny amount of a high-coverage, lightweight liquid concealer on a small brush or your fingers and gently pat the product under the eyes.
We like the BPerfect Chroma Cover Liquid Concealer for this.
BPerfect Chroma Cover Liquid Concealer – €11.95
Blush & Bronzer
Cream and liquid products are gorgeous on the skin. Adding colour after foundation will create a glow and make your skin look super healthy.
Add bronzer to all the places that the sun would typically hit – the face, temples, cheekbones, etc, and add blush to the apples of the cheeks. Make sure to not apply anything too far down the face as we want to create a lifting effect. We recommend KASH Beauty’s Bronze and Blush Sculpt Sticks.
KASH Beauty Blush Sculpt Stick – €18.95
The Eyes
It’s best to stick to matte eyeshadows as shimmer and glitter catch the light and accentuate fine lines.
Focusing on the lash line is an amazing way to bring out the eyes on more mature faces. Using a cream eyeshadow stick, you can draw a thin line that follows the natural lash line.
Finish the eyes with a waterproof brown or black mascara and you will be all set!
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Matte – €32.95
The Lips
The goal for the lips is hydration with a pop of colour. It is essential that you keep your lips moisturised with a treatment or a lip balm every day.
After that, you can go with your favourite lipstick. Once again, you’d want to stay away from matte formulas. The best for mature lips will be a creamy, long-lasting lipstick.
Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Icon Baby Lipstick – €36
