Netflix’s upcoming talent show Building the Band has left the late Liam Payne’s family “blindsided” with the go-ahead of its release despite their wishes for it not to be aired.

The former One Direction singer, 31, sadly passed away last year when he tragically fell from his hotel balcony while on a trip with his finance in Buenos Aires Argentina.

The Sun reports that Liam filmed the show in the early half of 2023. Alongside Kelly Rowland and Nicole Scherzinger, the trio appeared as guest judges on the show. The series was set to premiere at the end of this year but was postponed after the tragic incident. However, now it is set to go ahead despite disapproval from Liam’s loved ones.

Building the Band brings aspiring pop stars together, the show pairs them into groups and tries to form a band, despite the individuals having never met before. It’s a similar concept to the show Love is Blind, contestants are in a booth and have only musical compatibility to go off of.

Apparently the streaming giant assured Liam’s grieving relatives that the show would be put on hold, therefore they were “surprised by the announcement” when they had never given a final stamp of approval.

There is no set date for the release of the series however it is expected to hit Netflix towards the end of this year.
