Still confused? No worries, girl

May 14 marks six months since Vinted has been available in Ireland, and it’s off to a great start. However, it can take a while to get used to a new app, especially if you’re switching from one buy/sell marketplace to another.

Different regulations, different ways to upload photos and scoping out your favourite fits can get so confusing!

So, if you’re just joining the app or struggling to buy or sell clothes, then we have some tips to make your Vinted journey an enjoyable one!

Selling

1. Don’t upload photos of your clothes from other websites

Unlike other buy/sell marketplaces, Vinted doesn’t allow you to upload photos of your clothes from the websites you bought them off. Doing so is going against Vinted’s copyright laws.

This could result in your listings being removed, meaning a delay in selling your outfits, or even worse, your account being banned.

Make sure you’re taking your own photos so you can keep selling and earning some cash!

2. Don’t just post photos of your clothes on a hanger!

When you’re out shopping, it can be quite tricky to tell whether you’ll like an outfit on a hanger, unless you try it on. This can be even trickier online as you can’t try it on at all!

Posting a mix of photos of you wearing your outfit as well as on a hanger and a clear description of what you’re selling can help increase your chances of a sale.

You want to make it as easy as possible for your buyer to know exactly what they’re ordering.

3. Be consistent with posting

Try not to feel disheartened if one of your outfits doesn’t sell, just keep posting. Being consistent is a great way to ensure that your outfits get bought. That one dress you weren’t going to post, might be exactly what someone was looking for.

Consistency is also a great way of building up a buyers’ trust. The great thing about Vinted is that you’ll always get a review after a purchase. So, from posting more, you will sell more, meaning more reviews and trust, leading to even more sales!

4. Vinted is not just for clothes

This is just a little reminder that Vinted is not just for selling clothes. Do you own some books that won’t be read again? Put them up! Vinted has a variety of other categories including ‘home’, ‘electronics’ and even ‘pet care’.

Buying

1. Build up your ‘Recommended for you’

Opening Vinted for the first time will be the trickiest part of your journey on this app. Vinted has no idea what brands or designs you like, so building up your style is vital to helping you find some of your future purchases!

Try typing your favourite brands and styles into the search bar, making sure to favourite all the items you spot along the way, so you can come back to them later.

Vinted will then start to build up an idea of the clothes you like in the ‘recommended for you’ section. This will make it much easier to scroll through a list of clothes that you might to potentially buy.

2. Don’t be afraid to make offers

If you don’t ask, you don’t get! If you’ve found a lovely fit which is slightly out of your price range, don’t be afraid to send an offer. They may even counter your offer to meet somewhere in the middle. The worst a seller can do is say no.

3. Make sure you know exactly what you’re buying

Most items will say exactly what they are and what is included in the sale. However, just make sure to read the description before buying an item. You don’t want to get a shock if an accessory in one of the uploaded photos wasn’t part of the sale.

If you have any queries about what is included in the purchase, don’t be afraid to message the seller. It’s better to know what’s included before buying so there’s no disappointment when your package arrives.

4. Check out ‘Similar items’

If you click onto an item which is almost what you’re looking for, but there’s just something missing, then don’t forget to check out the ‘Similar items’ section.

You can find this if you scroll down to the bottom of an item. These outfits may have the same brand, size, colour or style of an outfit you’re looking for and may be the perfect buy for you!
