All We Know About The Sabrina Carpenter Alice In Wonderland Film

It seems Alice in Wonderland might be taking a trip down Pretty Girl Avenue, as Sabrina Carpenter is reportedly set to make her big screen debut starring as Alice in the new musical movie based on the classic children’s novel by Lewis Carroll.

Many details on the project are currently under wraps, but we do know that it will be Universal Pictures who will be taking this movie on, and after the success of Wicked, we have high hopes for this new project!

The ‘Espresso’ singer is the first name to be mentioned for the cast selection, and we couldn’t think of a better Alice! Carpenter has the perfect look and vibe to fit this musical movie.

This news comes just a week after it was confirmed that Sabrina has earned herself 6 Grammy nominations for Album of the Year, Best Pop Album, Song of the Year and many more – a very good week to be a Carpenter! The singer is currently still on her Short and Sweet international tour which came to Dublin’s 3 Arena last March for 2 spectacular shows.

Not only will Sabrina be starring in the movie, but she will also be involved as a producer alongside the incredible Marc Platt, who has worked on some of the most iconic musical movies to date including, LaLa Land, Wicked: For Good, Snow White and many more. With the success of these past films, there is no doubt that this next project will be another amazing production.

There are many other well-known names attached to this project, including Lorene Scafaria, who is best known for her involvement in the hit series Succession and Golden Globe nominated movie Hustlers, which starred Jennifer Lopez.

She will take on the role of writer and director for this musical movie, along with Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton, the duo behind Alloy Entertainment who produced some of our favourite shows like Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries.

While this would be her first time on the big screen, Sabrina is not new to acting with her on screen career starting well before becoming one of this generation’s biggest pop stars.

She first appeared as a guest role in Law and Order back in 2011, before her breakthrough role as Maya Heart on Disney’s Girl Meets World, which ran from 2014-2017. She also had a role in the Netflix original film, Tall Girl back in 2019.

Sabrina also appeared as Cady Heron on broadway’s Mean Girls: The Musical back in 2020, but unfortunately due to Covid the show was cut short. However, this new Alice in Wonderland project will be a chance for Carpenter’s musical redemption.

The Hollywood Reporter has said that this is a passion project for Sabrina. When she appeared on Chicken Shop Date, Sabrina said her favourite movie of all time is Alice in Wonderland and has previously worn an Alice in Wonderland inspired outfit to a red carpet event – how cute that her dreams are finally coming to fruition!

Of course, this isn’t the first Alice in Wonderland adaptation we’ve seen. The animated version of the story was released back in 1951 by Disney, and Tim Burton took his own spin on the production with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, but it will certainly be different to see Alice in Wonderland in a musical light.

With more details set to be released soon, we cannot wait for this movie to hit the big screen and see who else will be added to this fantastic lineup.
