What We Learned From Taylor Swift’s Texts To Blake Lively

"Just come back please"

Taylor Swift and Blake Lively have been friends since 2015 – and are one of Hollywood’s most high profile friendships.

As a result of Lively’s lawsuit against Justin Baldoni and his production company Wayfarer, the long-term friend’s private texts have become public records.

After the texts were unsealed, they circulated widely on social media. And seeing as Taylor’s efforts to remain out of this public legal battle have been unsuccessful, what do these texts say about her relationship to Blake?

Firstly, messages dated from December 2024 address how the It Ends With Us controversy was affecting the pair’s long-term friendship. Lively reached out first with, “I have no reason to ask, but I dunno, I’ve been feeling like I should… is everything ok?

“I felt like a bad friend lately because I was such a sad sack who only talked about my own shit for months.”

Lively also thanked Swift for being supportive through this time. She continued, “I know how busy and taxed you are physically, emotionally, practically, so I don’t expect any more from you ever. Just want to make sure all is good.”

Swift replied over an hour later as she was in the last leg of her Eras Tour during the time, “You’re not wrong, but it’s also not a big deal…I think I’m just exhausted in every avenue of my life.”

Swift acknowledged how their friendship had been distanced during this time, but explained how she was ‘”just exhausted” additionally expressing how she felt that Lively had changed recently.

“Your last few texts… it’s felt like I was reading a mass corporate email sent to 200 employees,” she wrote. “I just kinda miss my funny, dark, normal-speaking friend who talks to me as herself.

“Just come back please.”

Lively responded later explaining her thoughts on Baldoni and how she felt betrayed by people she thought she could trust,

“This fucking guy and what he did to me gave me an identity crisis. Legitimately.

“The thing that spooked me most in all this though, wasn’t the bad guys being bad guys, it was the good guys, my lifelong friends –allies to women- who quietly dipped,” she said. “Fuck that guy and fuck his whole gaggle of supervillains”.

Lively then explained the emotional toll of their distance, “And so, I’m probably being over the top with my friends who stayed I’ve never felt more alone.”

She then closed the messages explaining how she was “excited” for Taylor to be done with her Eras Tour.

Messages dated from December 2024 show Swift referring to Baldoni after he went on record with People Magazine about his sexual traumatisation from an ex-girlfriend.

Swift shared a screenshot of the post to Lively captioned, “I think this bitch knows something is coming because he’s gotten out his tiny violin.”

The pair then discussed Baldoni being honoured at the Vital Voices for Women event. He received a solidarity award which was then revoked in December 2024. Before this Swift wrote, “This is so disgusting and I hate that he’s clever about this shit”.

Lively responded: “Can you imagine feeling as confident as these predators that you’re going to always get away with it.”

Following the release of It Ends With Us, Colleen Hoover’s first film adaptation, lawsuits were filed from both starring actors. Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni’s production company Wayfarer Studios, also suing Baldoni for alleged sexual assault which he strongly denies.

In response Baldoni filed a $400 million counter lawsuit, claiming defamation and that Lively ‘stole the film’ from him and his company. Baldoni’s case was dismissed by a judge last June, while Lively’s case is set to go to trial this May.
