What Exactly Does It Mean To ‘Charge It’?

Charge it to the game

“Charge it to the game.” “Charge it to the challenge.” “Simply charge it.”

But what does it meaaaan?!

If you’ve been at all watching Love Island All Stars, you will be more than familiar with Whitney Adebayo, and her constant desire to “charge it.”

Someone gets dumped – charge it to the game. Someone kisses someone they’re not in a couple with – charge it to the game.

Lucinda picks Ciaran during the recoupling even though she’s barely had any chats with him and Samie is right there – Whitney says charge it to the game, before Jess says “we are not charging this.”

And then Whitney whispers: “Charge it to the game.”

Okay, so what does it actually mean to “charge it”?

Personally, as a millennial, I have no idea. But Urban Dictionary does.

It says: “A common phrase said when something so horrendous, so soul-wrenching, something that causes tremendous harm to ones mental, physical or emotional state happens to a person in ones common vicinity.

“The phrase is meant to represent and indicate to the recipient to accept the situation and take it on the chin. You can use this in any situation, no matter how severe the incident is.”

Or, a shorter explanation: “To just accept what has happened and move on.”

So when Whitney says to charge it, and Jess says, “we are not charing this,” she means we will simply not accept what has happened.

Checks out.
