Netflix Is Officially Bringing Ads To Ireland – Here’s EYNTK

Well, it’s official – Netflix is introducing ads to Ireland for “more affordable” viewing options.

As it stands, Netflix packages including ads are already rolled out in countries like the US, the UK, Australia, Japan, and Brazil – meaning that users can agree to 4-5 minutes of ads per hour of viewing for a cheaper monthly fee.

Subscriptions with ads in the UK start from £5.99, around €6.99. This is approximately half the price of an ad-free account.

And now, this is option will soon be available to viewers in Ireland too.

Here’s what we know.

Netflix announced this week that ad plans will be extended to 15 new countries, including Ireland.

These countries are: Austria, Belgium, Colombia, Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and Thailand.

“We’ve got cutting-edge technology, we’ve got great entertainment across shows, movies, podcasts, and live events, and we’ve got the most engaged and attentive audience,” said Netflix’s President of Advertising Amy Reinhard.

“We’ve proven we’re effective, and now we’re expanding ads to more places and we’re ready to compete with anyone.”

Users with ad accounts make up 250 million of Netflix’s global monthly active viewers. 80% of ads members also actively watch every week, so there clearly is an appetite for a cheaper subscription. 

Ad subscriptions will be available to Irish users from some time in 2027. It is not yet known what this subscription will cost – and whether the price of a regular Netflix subscription will change.

From next year, the service will also be utilising AI to target ads specifically to users, based on their viewing history. 

“AI is making advertising with Netflix easier and more efficient,” they said. “Netflix reaches a unique and attentive audience for our advertising partners, as 44% of members who see an ad on Netflix never saw it on broadcast TV or other streamers.”

A Netflix account in Ireland currently costs between €11 and €24 a month, depending on what package you choose.
