10 STELLAR Questions With Creator & Stylist Joyce O

If there’s one thing Ireland isn’t short of, it’s eyes for fashion.

Our little country boasts so many creators, stylists, artists and designers making serious waves in the fashion industry – here at home, and beyond.

Joyce O (also known as @jojo__stylez) is one of those people. A content creator and stylist, her approach to fashion is unique, inspiring, and so, so striking.

We caught up with Joyce to find out more about the inspiration behind her looks, her biggest influences, and the advice she would give her younger self.

1. How did you get started in your career?

Styling actually started for me as a child. I played with dolls constantly, dressing them, creating characters, putting together little stories through their outfits. Looking back, that was probably my earliest form of creative expression, and some childhood interests really do stay with you.

As I got older, I started experimenting with my own personal style. Playing with colours, textures, proportions, menswear, accessories, and different ways of putting an outfit together.

I loved creating editorial-style content and personalising pieces rather than just following what was trending. What made me take it seriously was the response – friends, brands and clients started reaching out for styling advice and opportunities.

That’s when I realised this wasn’t just a hobby; it was something that came naturally to me, and I could build something real out of it. That’s how JojoStylez came to life.

2. Your editorial work on Instagram is incredible – where do you get your inspiration from?

Honestly, a lot of it comes from instinct rather than trend-chasing. I love playing with colour, texture and proportion, and personalising pieces rather than just replicating what’s already out there.

Because I handle every part of it myself, sourcing the pieces, shooting, styling, modelling, the whole concept stays true to one creative vision from start to finish, which I think is what gives it a distinct feel.

3. Why is your own personal style so important to you?

Personal style has always been my way of telling a story without saying a word. I’ve never been someone who dresses to follow a trend. I’d rather experiment and put my own spin on things.

It’s the same instinct that drove me as a kid dressing dolls: creating a character, a mood, a moment, through what someone’s wearing.

4. Who are your biggest influences?

Honestly, I don’t look to influencers within the industry. My style has always come from my own niche and instinct rather than following anyone else’s lead. But in terms of fashion houses and designers, there are a few whose work genuinely moves me.

Saint Laurent, Dior Haute Couture, Pharrell Williams’ work for Louis Vuitton, Schiaparelli, and Nigerian designers like Tubo, Veekee James, Mai Atafo for menswear, Hertunba, among many others. Getting to style or wear their pieces one day would be a dream come true.

And as for a style icon, the late Audrey Hepburn is my favourite. Her elegance and character have always stayed with me.

5. How has social media changed your life?

It’s completely changed the way I’ve been able to build JojoStylez. I taught myself digital marketing from scratch, and grew the brand to over 10,000 followers organically.

No agency, no paid growth, just consistency and a strong sense of what I wanted to create. It’s turned from a creative outlet into something that generates real opportunities and leads, and it’s given me a platform to show what I can do while I’ve still been working my 9-to-5.

6. Who are your biggest cheerleaders?

My grandmother, my sisters, and my friends have always supported my passion for fashion. I remember when I finished high school, my grandmother, who’d seen how much I loved watching her sew in her little sewing room, enrolled me in fashion school to learn to sew.

She’s been my number one cheerleader from the very beginning, alongside my amazing friends and family.

7. Do you have a favourite look you’ve worn?

I have a few favourites looks created, designed by me (you can check them out throughout this article). 

8. What are you watching or reading right now?

Nothing on the watching side at the moment, but reading… magazines are basically my favourite books, if that counts! I have monthly subscriptions to Vogue, Elle, other Irish titles, and Stellar too. 

They’re where I get so much of my inspiration, ideas and sense of what’s coming next in trends. I genuinely have magazines in every corner of my apartment, even in my car. I love them that much.

9. What is your favourite thing about your work?

Taking an idea that starts in my head and actually bringing it to life. Whether it’s an editorial concept, styling a client, or working with a brand, there’s something exciting about watching an idea become something tangible.

I also love the human side of it, seeing a client feel confident in something I’ve put together, or a brand connect with a concept I’ve created. That’s the most rewarding part.

10. What advice would you give your younger self?

You don’t need the entire roadmap figured out before you start. I’m still learning and figuring things out as I go, and I’ve become comfortable with that. I’d tell my younger self to trust that the small things, dressing dolls, playing with proportions, personalising your own clothes aren’t just phases.

Keep creating, keep putting yourself out there, and let the response guide you. The determination and resourcefulness you build along the way matter just as much as the end result.
