What’s The Story With Meghan Markle’s ‘Return To Acting?’

Meghan Markle – we haven’t heard that name in a long time.

Well, we have, just not in the acting sphere where she has been noticeably absent since entering into a relationship with Prince Harry, marrying him, leaving the UK, and subsequently, stepping back from the Royal Family.

Meghan has been up to lots since that time.

She’s had two children, she’s done a few shows for Netflix, she started a podcast, she did that Oprah interview that everyone was talking about for about a year.

And now, apparently Meghan is ready to return to acting – at least, that’s the story, anyway.

Earlier this month it was reported that Meghan was being eyed up for Netflix’s The Gentleman, Guy Ritchie’s action comedy series starring Theo James and Kaya Scodelario.

She, Harry, and their children are also apparently returning to the UK for an “extended period of time,” apparently to facilitate Meghan’s potential return to acting.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the role “is currently being written, so it’s unclear how many episodes she would appear in,” and there was no clear indication as to whether Meghan had been cast yet.

Then, journalist Tina Brown tweeted that the deal was off, and that Meghan wouldn’t be returning to the UK at all.

She said: “I have heard that Meghan Markle’s role in Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen is OFF. Public backlash was too fierce. This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK.”

But was there ever a role to begin with? The casting – or interest – has yet to be addressed by Netflix or Ritchie, and until then we don’t really know whether Meghan was in talks to return to acting or not.

In 2025, she appeared alongside Lily Collins and Jack Quaid in film, Close Personal Friends, but she did play herself, which is not entirely the same as taking on a new role.

The reports about Meghan and Harry returning to the UK in a non-permanent capacity have also yet to be confirmed, but there does seem to be a bit more truth to them.

The BBC reports that Meghan and Harry plan to return to the UK this month.

According to them, the Royal Family is aware of the couple’s desire to return to the UK and that King Charles “welcomes the opportunity to see more of the Sussex family in a private and personal capacity.”

PEOPLE also reported that the couple have enrolled their children, Lilibet and Archie, in schools, and that the family are planning to establish a “non-royal base” in England, while still keeping their home in California.

However, last year Prince Harry told the BBC that the family had no plans to go back to England, and that his wife and children’s safety was paramount to him.

“I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point,” he said.

“There have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family… I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight any more; life is precious.”
