15 Budget Beauty Buys Make-Up Artists Love
We asked five make-up artists for their top beauty dupes. Here are their picks. (Psst! Some of them cost as little at €1.49! Yay!)
Kim O’Sullivan
Dealz Pro Liquid Eyeliner, €1.49
“With such a seriously low price point one would presume it’s performance and quality would mirror that,” says award-winning make-up artist Kim O’Sullivan. “This is not the case. In fact this little liquid pot of black magic has even been endorsed by Vogue magazine. I’m hooked, and I can safely say it stands up to its higher priced competitors. It has a super easy to use applicator tip and it’s not too runny so it’s not messy.”
Max Factor 2000 Calorie, €9.99
Kim gives this mascara a thumbs up too. “Being a mascara junkie, I have tried every single mascara on the market and this is the best and a staple for most make-up artists. Its formula fattens even the thinnest of lashes and gives them up to 300% volume instantly! With no need for primers, the first application stays touch-proof and smudge-proof.”
L’oreal True Match Foundation, €11.99
Reckon you need to spend a fortune on foundation? Nuh-uh, says Kim. “This super silky, lightweight fluid foundation is my go-to for dewy glowing skin,” she tells us. “It’s an oil-free, fragrance-free hydrating fluid which allows you to layer and build for optional added coverage without the worry that it will look cakey or patchy. Its patented color match technology allows you to achieve the truest skin match too.”
Sarah Keary
Maybelline Brow Satin Eyebrow Pencil, €8.99
“This is one of my all time favourite brow products,” ‘fesses freelance MUA Sarah Keary. “It has a mechanical waxy textured pencil on one end and a powder applicator on the other. A must-have if you’re looking for a natural long, lasting finish.”
Topshop Chameleon Highlighter, €16
This highlighter is great at creating “a strobed highlighted look on the skin,” says Sarah. “The translucent, luminous highlighter contains chameleon pearls and has a soft texture leaving skin looking smoother and beautifully glowing. Apply to the high points of the face and blend for a soft glow or build for intense lustre,” she instructs.
NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick, €6.49
Also on Sarah’s list is this pick from NYX. “If you have never tried or known about the phenomenal NYX Round Lipstick, then you’re totally missing out,” she says. “The mineral based emollient formula offers a beautiful creamy texture and saturated colour, and it resists wear and smudging as well.”
Robyn O’Brien
NYX Slim Lip Pencil, €2.32
“I love how long lasting these are,” says Dublin-based make-up artist Robyn O’Brien. “They come in great shades. Nude Beige is my absolute fave!”
Garnier Micellar Water, €4.93
Robyn describes this as her absolute go-to cleanser. “It takes off everything and it’s great for all skin types.” It’s one of our favourites too.
Penneys Individual Lashes, €1.50
“Only €1.50 a pack and they are the best individual lashes around,” Robyn gushes. “Each bunch is a double lash which gives amazing volume lashes and really finishes off a look.”
Tara O’Farrell
Rimmel Good To Glow In Soho Glow, €6.49
For freelancer Tara O’Farrell this liquid highligher is “great for perking up dull and tired skin. It can be used alone or mixed with your foundation for an instant glow,” she says.
Dealz Make-Up Gallery Lip gloss in Nice & Nude, €1.49
Second on Tara’s list is a Dealz beauty buy. “This has to be is one of my favourite nude lip glosses. It can be worn alone or on top of your favourite nude lipstick,” she tells us.
Wet n Wild Eyeshadow Trio, €4.68
“This eyeshadow trio is perfect for achieving a soft and defined eye look,” says Robyn. “The Walking On Eggshells trio is all you need for a weekend away.”
Clare Hogan
Maybeline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Liner, €11.99
Why is this one of pro MUA Clare Hogan’s faves? “ It gives a good intense black finish,” she explains. “It’s long lasting too and comes with a great little brush.”
Maybeline Nude Palette, €14.17
“This palette has a really nice selection of colours that suit everyone,” says Clare,” and it contains a good mix of mattes and shimmers and good pigment.”
Revlon Bronze Glow Highlighting Palette, €10.37
“This gives a lovely finish to the skin, and it’s not too glittery,” says Clare. “Shades can be used individually as eyeshadow highlighters also on the inner corner of the eye.”
