Scarlett Johansson Just Doled Out The Best Damn Dating Advice We’ve Heard In Ages
Preach it, sista.
Calling it quits on a relationship is never easy. Even when the partnership is toxic and the decision seems like it should be clear cut choosing to end things is still a tough call to make.
So how do you know when it’s really time to walk away?
For Scarlet Johansson it’s when you feel like you’re sacrificing a piece of who you are to be with that person.
Drawing on her previous experience in an interview with Cosmopolitan she says “Long, long ago, I had someone in my life who was forever unavailable…, but like, so attractively unavailable. You have to get to your breaking point… rock bottom is the moment when you’re like, ‘I’ve lost myself. Why am I standing outside this bar at 1.30 in the morning texting while my friends are inside? Or taking a taxi to see him at some ungodly hour? This isn’t me.’ That is the moment you’ve gotta cut it off. Otherwise, it will keep coming back, suck your blood.”
Relationship expert Debra King agrees, writing in a piece for The Huffington Post that a key sign it’s time to say goodbye is that “he’s not the person you first met… and you’re not the person you used to be.”
The takeaway? If your relationship has changed who you are, and not for the better, and you feel like you’re losing a little bit of yourself as the months tick by then it’s probably time to walk away.
Psst! Still feeling uncertain? Here are six more signs it’s time to call it a day.
