Baller! Judi Dench Got A Tattoo For Her 81st Birthday, And Here’s A Picture For Proof

In the last five years alone, Dame Judi Dench has been nominated for an Oscar (her seventh, btw), starred in two James Bond films, taken to the stage for a whole host of classic theatre productions, and had a role in a Pirates Of The Caribbean sequel just for fun. Oh, and she’s 81.

If you hadn’t already gathered, Dame Judi is a total baller, and she’s just compounded that fact by getting her first tattoo.

The actress revealed in a recent interview that’d she’d gotten the inking – a small black wrist tattoo of the words “carpe diem” – as a gift from her daughter Finty.

“That’s my motto: Seize the day,” the actress said of her choice.

“Finty gave it to me for my 81st birthday [last December]. She’s wonderful with surprises.”

Despite her love of seizing the day, the tattoo certainly wasn’t an impulse decision. In fact, the Philomena star had been planning it for over a year, and said as much in an interview with Good Housekeeping in January 2015.

“I am tempted to have a tattoo to mark my birthday. Finty’s very keen on me having one,” she said at the time.

“There’s an Indian symbol that I like which supposedly represents life and love and everything. One of the cameramen who worked on The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel told me what it meant, but I’m a bit nervous in case I’m being set up… It might be unbelievably rude!”

Sounds like she made the right decision with “carpe diem,” so.
