Experts Say This Is How Long You Should Wait To Start Dating Again After A Breakup
They'd have something to say about Taylor moving on so (ahem!) swiftly for sure.
No sooner had Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris announced their split, than she was spotted cosying up to rumoured new boyfriend Tom Hiddleston. And as their new relationship seems to be moving at the speed of light (they’re currently traveling together and Tay has already met Tom’s mum) we have to wonder: is moving on from a breakup so quickly ever a good idea?
Well, according to Paulette Kouffman Sherman, newly single folks should definitely be waiting at least a month before they consider hooking up with a new beau.
She tells Glamour: “Most people need a month or two to process the breakup, to mourn, and to integrate lessons before jumping back in if they were in a fairly serious relationship,” adding that for longer relationships, some additional time alone is probably required.

The good news is though, that there’s no one-size-fits-all for the time it takes to get over a breakup. The important thing is to make sure you’re past the point of ugly-crying on the couch and eating tub-loads of Ben N Jerrys.
“This way, you will feel whole and in high self-esteem before you go back into the next relationship and won’t just be trying to fill that hole,” Paulette explains.
As for gals who are struggling to move on, there is some small comfort in the findings of a recent study that suggests fresh heartbreak helps you undergo a period of intense growth, meaning you’ll come out a whole lot stronger once you’re over it.
That growth includes things like extra confidence, feeling more independent and having closer relationships with your friends and family, so breakups aren’t all bad news.
The moral? Take some time to yourself and don’t move on until you’re good and ready.
