Solved! Beyonce’s Songwriter Has Finally Revealed The Truth About ‘Becky With The Good Hair’
Cos it's about time we all knew who the hell she is.
When Beyonce dropped her visual album Lemonade in April, pandemonium ensued and there was one lyric in particular that caused a helluva lot of controversy.
The line “He only want me when I’m not there / He better call Becky with the good hair” from her track ‘Sorry’ instantly sparked rumours that Jay-Z had cheated on her.
Naturally, the Beyhive reacted accordingly, accusing every celebrity from Rita Ora to Katy Perry of being Becky With The Good Hair AKA Jay-Z’s mistress.
Now, Diana Gordon, who collaborated with Beyonce on the album has stepped in to finally clear the whole thing up, but if you were hoping that the identity of Becky would finally be revealed you’ll be sorely disappointed, as Diana explains that Becky doesn’t have an identity, she’s completed fabricated.
Chatting to Entertainment Weekly, Diana explains that she had no idea the lyric would cause such controversy.
“I laughed, like this is so silly. Where are we living? I was like, ‘What day in age from that lyric do you get all of this information? Is it really telling you all that much, accusing people?'” she tells EW.
So to clarify, we all totally overreacted.
Diana adds that even Beyonce didn’t anticipate the response the lyric would get.
“I don’t think she expected it. I saw her at her Formation tour. She had a pajama party; we laughed, we danced, we hugged it out. But I didn’t say much about it at the time because I wanted to give her space.”
She continues “The idea [for the lyric] started in my mind but it’s not mine anymore. It was very funny and amusing to me to watch it spread over the world. If it’s not going to be me saying it, and the one person in the world who can say it is Beyoncé, I was f*cking happy.”
We guess that’s that then. Celebrity scandal solved. Case dismissed.
