Here’s What Malia Obama Is Going To Miss Most About The White House

Her dad's time there is nearly up.

With the Presidential campaign currently in full swing, there are mere months left until Barack Obama officially vacates the White House.

But it’s not just the current President of the USA who will be waving goodbye to the iconic Washington D.C. property, it’s his family too.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres this week, America’s First Lady Michelle Obama revealed what her daughters Sasha, 15 and Malia, 18, would miss most about the place that’s been their home for the last eight years.

“I’m sure the girls will have a tough time,” she admitted. “They think they’re ready, but when you’ve grown up in a place…”

Michelle also said she was unsure if it had hit home with her daughters that once they left the White House they would most likely only ever return there as guests – unless they planned on running for presidency themselves one day.

“I mean, they won’t be able to knock on a door and say, ‘Can I see my room?’ That’s not gonna happen,” Michelle said.

Of course, it’s not just the rooms and gardens of the six-floor, 55,000 sq ft property that hold memories for the Obama fam – it’s the hundreds of staff members they’ve grown close to since moving in back in 2008.

“It’s really the people,” she explained. “Think about it. The girls have grown up in the White House. I mean, the staff there, we see them every day. These are people who have helped us raise our kids. They’ve loved us. They’ve taken care of us. The minute we leave, that’s it.”

The transition won’t be too sudden, as the Obamas reportedly plan to remain in Washington for another year until Sasha finishes school. As for Malia, she’s spent the last few months interning with the US embassy in Madrid, and is currently on a gap year (involving lots of beer pong) before she begins at Harvard in 2017.

With that packed schedule, we doubt she’ll even have time to think about missing her old gaff…
