While all six of the outfits Gigi wore to host the AMAs were on point, it seems that her sense of humour didn’t go down quite as well.

The model did an impression of Melania Trump, referencing her alleged plagiarism during a segment on the awards show.

“I love my husband, President Barack Obama, and our children, Sasha and Malia,” she said mimicking Melania’s Slovenian accent and referencing her alleged plagiarism of Michelle Obama’s speech.

The model was instantly hit with a tonne of backlash for the skit online with fans labelling her “racist” and a “bully.”

Hundreds of angry Trump supporters even took to her Instagram, writing mean comments on pictures she had posted some time ago.

Now, Gigi has responded, and issued the following handwritten statement on Twitter.

It reads:

“I was honored to host the AMAs last night and to work with some of the most respected writers in the business. I removed or changed anything in the script that I felt took the joke too far, and whether or not you choose to see it, what remains was done in good humor and with no bad intent!

“I too have been the center of a nationally televised comedy skit that poked fun at my actions and was able to find the humor in it. I believe Melania understands show business and the way shows are written and run. I apologize to anyone that I offended & have only the best wishes for our country.”

Hmm. Now let that be the end of it.
