Missed Out On Gig Tickets This Year? This Proposed New Law Could Change All That
It will penalise those who resell tickets for more than 10 per cent of their face value.
If you missed out on Ed Sheeran or Coldplay tickets this year, only to find them being resold on ticket touting sites for treble the price, you’ll love this proposed new legislation.
A bill has been put forward by Sinn Féin TD, Maurice Quinlivan, to penalise people for reselling gig tickets for exorbitant prices.
The new bill is not being opposed by government, and will make it illegal to resell tickets for a profit of more than 10%.
Any breaches of this limit will result in fines of up to €5,000. About feckin’ time, am I right?
Companies like Seatwave, which is owned by Ticketmaster, will be hugely affected by this new law. The touting site came under fire earlier this year when U2 tickets, which sold out within minutes on Ticketmaster, popped up on Seatwave for thousands of euro.
And people were raging when the same thing happened with Ed Sheeran and Coldplay tickets, criticising the site of ‘robbery’.
This is pure robbery on seatwave for 2 standing @edsheeran tickets. the other buy and sell sites are no better either 😞 pic.twitter.com/6fXBblXGS7
