Love Is Officially Dead: Ellen DeGeneres Has Reportedly Split From Portia De Rossi

Grab a tissue, guys… Comedian Ellen DeGeneres is reportedly divorcing her wife of nine years, Portia De Rossi.

An insider told In Touch Weekly that, “It’s happening. She and Portia are breaking up. Portia’s ring has been off for a while now, and though she would occasionally slip it on to show Ellen she was trying, that’s over now… There’s no turning back. It’s just a matter of time before the whole world knows.”

We’re sceptical of the news, solely because the famous couple have always been our definition of true love. Over the years, they’ve referred to one another as ‘soulmates’, and have said heartwarming things about one another such as, “I can’t imagine not being married. I have my best friend, the person I want to spend time with more than anybody else in the world”.

But the insider continued, “Bottom line, Portia feels Ellen didn’t let her be herself or develop her acting career more. She said she needs to break free or she’s going to snap.”

If this is true (and we sincerely hope it isn’t) it’s been said that, “Ellen will pay to guarantee that Portia won’t go public with their relationship and marriage in a future tell-all book. Ellen wants to protect her reputation and her brand. If Portia plays her cards right, Ellen will give her whatever she wants.”

We’re not the only people hoping this is just a big mistake. Fans of the couple have been taking to Twitter with the exact same sentiment, saying, “If Ellen and Portia can’t make it then we are all doomed”.

For now, we’ll wait for an official statement from the couple themselves before we let our hearts break completely. After all, Portia posted a photo of Ellen on Instagram just four days ago. Ignoring the fact that Ellen’s wedding ring is nowhere to be seen, the photo shows the TV host chilling out on the couple’s bed.

So it can’t be all bad, right?
