People Are Signing A Petition To Stop The Release Of New “Body Shaming” Netflix Show ‘Insatiable’

Upcoming Netflix original show Insatiable is receiving huge amounts of online backlash, and it hasn’t even been released yet.

The show, starring Debby Ryan, is described as a ‘coming of rage story’ about an overweight girl in high school that is bullied because of her size, only to be involved in an accident causing her to lose weight over summer and become ‘hot’.

Despite fellow star Alyssa Milano defending the trailer, and insisting it addresses the issue of fat shaming in a light hearted way, twitter is having none of it.

i have some beef w the new netflix movie insatiable. they’re promoting the idea that you can’t be attractive unless you’re thin which i think is a load of garbage. i will definitely not be watching that! ?#ins

the ideaology behind netflix’s Insatiable is that to get one up on your bullies you have to stop being the thing they were bullying you for and become what they want. having a skinny girl wearing a fat suit is harmful. the ideaology is harmful.

As a fat girl, any show/movie that pushes a narrative that fat girls have to get skinny to have power over their bullies is a HARD PASS for me. I expect more from Alyssa Milano, someone who has been a champion for women over recent months. Please @netflix, be better. #Insatiable
