Meghan Markle Had A Piece Of Her First Date Dress Sewn Into Her Wedding Veil As Her ‘Something Blue’
Eh, how cute is that?
Every inch of Meghan Markle’s royal wedding dress has been pored over and analysed, but there was one romantic little detail that no one was aware of until now.
In a new HBO documentary about the royal family called Queen of the World, Meghan gets a look at her wedding dress for the first time since the big day.
She takes the interviewer through the different elements of the dress – and points out something sweet that was hidden in her veil:
Somewhere in here, there’s a piece… did you see it? The piece of blue fabric that’s stitched inside? It was my something blue. It’s fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date.
The interviewer remarks that it’s “about the most romantic thing I’ve ever heard”, which gets a giggle out of Meghan.
The veil itself is a 16-foot tribute to her new gig, with each of the 53 countries in the Commonwealth represented by their national flower. She also included the wintersweet poppy, which grows at Kensington Palace, and the California poppy, the state flower of her native California.
She says she thought it would be a nice surprise for Prince Harry:
It was important for me, especially as a part of the royal family, to have all 53 of the Commonwealth countries incorporated. And I knew that it would be a fun surprise as well for my now husband, who didn’t know. He was really over the moon to find out that I would make this choice for our day together.
“I think the other members of the family had a similar reaction and appreciation for the fact that we understand how important this is for us, and the role we play, and the work we’re going to continue to do in the Commonwealth countries,” she continues.
Meghan was getting a good look at her wedding dress before it goes on display in a special exhibition at Windsor Castle from October 26.
