Government Launch Campaign Encouraging People To Wear Face Masks In Public

Today the Irish government launched a new campaign encouraging the public to wear face masks when out and about in public.

The new public information campaign hopes to make the message clear about the government’s view on face masks. A prominent query which hasn’t been properly addressed until now.

Acknowledging criticism that guidelines on wearing face masks has been “confusing” in the past, this new campaign hopes to make recommendations clearer for the public.

“Our message is simple: if you are in situations where social distancing is difficult, such as on public transport or in shops, please wear a face covering,” explained Taoiseach Leo Varadkar. “It’s also a good idea to wear one when you are visiting someone who is vulnerable to the virus. In this way, we can help to reduce the spread of the virus, which is more important than ever as our country continues to reopen.”

Leo Varadkar however, reminded people last week that face masks although important when in situations where you can social distance are not a “magic shield” against the virus and so, to continue practicing safety measures and washing your hands.
