Here’s The Reason Why Love Island Doesn’t Air On Saturday Night
A former Islander has spilled all.
We’re reached the four week mark of Love Island, drama is starting to heat up, and we’ve got Casa Amor around the corner, but, if you’ve ever wondered why we only get six helpings of Love Island a week, there’s a reason for that.
Love Island airs Monday to Friday with drama straight from the villa, taking a break on Saturday for a ‘best bits’ weekly recap of what’s gone on, to then resume once again on Sunday for two hours, with the second hour consisting of Love Island: Aftersun – a talk show hosted by Laura Whitmore, featuring a revolving panel of familiar faces and dumped Islanders discussing the show.
So, is the break on Saturday for the weekly highlights?
No, it turns out that’s not the reason, but merely a filler. According to former Islander and winner of the 2017 year, Kem Cetinay, he previously told Holly and Phil on This Morning that the Islanders get a day off, to leave the villa and stop filming.
“You get one day a week. Because, what happens is, it gives them a day to clean the villa,” Kem revealed. “And they take their mics off and normally they head to the beach, and just chill out.”

What about the juicy gossip that occurs when the mics are off?
Well, as you can imagine, although it’s a day off filming, the producers are still keeping an eye on all the Islanders and talking about the competition, the couples and anything to do with villa life is strictly forbidden.
“You’ve got to talk about home life. You’re being watched like a hawk – by the producers – because they don’t want you to talk about what’s going on,” Kem continued.
Interesting, very interesting.
As we’ve also previously found out, Islanders aren’t allowed to talk about villa life or anything to do with the show during dinner time too, instead, snacks and your usual cupboard necessities, e.g eggs, bread, fruit, ice cream etc.. are provided around the clock for them to nibble on when discussing drama.
Adding that although Love Island runs a tight ship, Kem added that Saturdays are a nice day for relaxing and for the Islanders to enjoy a break from the camera. I mean, we’d believe it.
Love Island continues tonight on Virgin Media One at 9pm
