5 Beauty Bloopers We All Make – And How To Fix Them, Fast

'Cause c'mon: we've all made a beauty mistake or three, eh?

Whether it’s getting lippie on your teeth, smudging your mascara or busting out some of the bigger beauty crimes like forgetting sunscreen and rocking dodgy foundation complete with orange tide-marks; sometimes it feels like we get it wrong more than we get it right. No hassle though, because here are a few of the most common beauty bloopers – and how you can fix ’em up real fast.

1 Using the same foundation every day

Is your foundation selfie-worthy one day and orange and flaky the next? Yep, we feel you. Skin can be a temperamental old thing depending on the weather, time of the month, your level of exhaustion and depending on whether you had pizza for dinner last night. To deal, keep two foundation formulas in your beauty arsenal so you can combat whatever moods your skin is in, whether it’s oily, dry or otherwise.

2 Not using waterproof mascara

Waterproof mascara isn’t just for soppy movies and bad breakups, y’know! A good one will keep your lashes smudge-proof and fluttery all day. If yours isn’t waterproof just add Anastasia Lash Genius Clear Waterproof Top Coat, €12 to make it instantly water resistant. Now that we’ve got that clear, who fancies watching My Sister’s Keeper?

3 Forgetting to wear sunscreen

We hear ya. It’s cold and rainy in Ireland, so what on earth would you need sunscreen for!? Well, you do: UV rays can penetrate cloud cover, bounce through glass and in winter the sun can actually be more dangerous as it’s closer to the earth. Because those harsh rays equal wrinkles, protect your face and hands every day. Here’s how to do it easily: lots of foundations contain an SPF upwards of 15, so you can look flawless and be protected in one.

4 Over-cleansing

We’ve got more scrubs, treatments and washes than you can wave a muslin cloth at, but over cleansing can do skin more harm than good. Aim to avoid harsh gel cleansers which strip the skin of its oils, leave exfoliation to two-to-three times a week max and watch your skin thank you. Think about making a move to oil or balm cleansers too; these comforting formulas are skin-kind, remove all traces of make-up and give you a chance for some facial massage too. Bonus.

5 Not using eye primer

Spent ages perfecting your smoky eye only for it to smudge half way round your face before you’ve finished your second Mojito? A long-lasting eye look’s all in the prep steps. Dot on a little Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion, €21, and blend out. Those extra ten seconds of effort will keep your make-up fresh for hours, meaning your shadow will still be intact into the small hours.
