A Guide To Looking Flawless During The Rainy Summer Weather
A necessity these days
Every summer, we hope that this year will be different. The sun will shine for three months straight, temperatures will be hitting the mid-twenties, and we’ll be kept dry as we go about our daily routine.
Then reality hits. The Leaving Cert ends, meaning those three weeks of guaranteed good weather stop, and instead, come days filled with rain showers that leave us miserable and looking like a drowned rat.
While we take some of our annual leave to catch some rays somewhere more tropical, the unfortunate actuality is that we still have to deal with the bleak Irish weather for the majority of the summer.
Despite all this, there are ways we can protect ourselves from the rain, wind and cold and still look fashionable throughout the summer.
Here is Stellar’s survival guide for Irish summer weather.
Makeup
There is nothing worse than when you spend ages doing your makeup, all for it to run down your cheeks due to the rain.
If your weather app is predicting a downpour, make sure to switch up your products so that your makeup will still look flawless at the end of the day.
Starting with your base, a longwear primer and foundation is a must.
Milk Makeup’s Hydro Grip Primer will help your makeup last 12 hours and avoid melting off or getting cakey.
L’Oréal Paris has a 32-Hour Freshwear Foundation that claims to be waterproof and leave your skin flawless, regardless of the elements.
Charlotte Tilbury has the Airbrush Flawless Foundation, which is available in 52 shades. It is meant to be “sweat proof, humidity proof, waterproof and transfer resistant.”
Waterproof mascara is a nightmare to remove but is needed on a miserable day if you want to avoid dark smudges around your eyes.
The Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara is an affordable option that will leave your lashes looking voluminous.
Or there is the always reliable Benefit and their BADgal BANG Waterproof Mascara.
To seal your makeup, you can invest in a long-wear sealant. Many swimmers use this, but with our temperamental climate, it might be worth purchasing.
Makeup Forever’s Aqua Seal Waterproof Liquid Converter can be combined with your eye and lip products to help them stay on longer and improve their pigment.
To finish your look, a setting spray is a must. The Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray has been trusted by professionals for years.
Hair
No matter your hair type, it will get frizzy in wet weather if not completely tucked away under a hood.
While nothing can stop an intense rainfall from messing up your perfectly styled locks, there are ways to make your hair still look presentable.
Color Wow’s Dream Coat Supernatural Spray has received rave reviews over its moisture-repelling properties. Even Kim Kardashian’s hairstylist, Chris Appleton, approves. It does need to be applied when you’re blow-drying your hair, but it will last up to three days.
Living Proof’s No Frizz Instant De-Frizzer can be put on dry hair and brushed through to smooth your strands.
Rain Jackets
Sometimes, we have to decide whether we should look stylish or be dressed appropriately for the weather.
Fashionable rain jackets are challenging to find as most rain jackets are plain. However, we’ve found a few that are stylish and practical.
Lululemon has a mid-length waterproof raincoat with a cape-like style for a chic look.
Orla Kiely and Regatta have collaborated on a clothing collection and have some rain jackets with fun prints like this one.
Looking for something longer to avoid any kind of rain? ASOS has this khaki jacket.
Rain Boots
If you’re trying to stay completely dry, you could always whip out the wellies. They may be needed, especially during festival season if the grounds are mucky.
Hunter has some simple and timeless styles, including these black ones.
If you want a lower style, check out these Tommy Hilfiger heeled boots that are currently on sale.
Hopefully, this miserable weather ends soon, so we can enjoy an ice cream or a cold cocktail outside on a hot summer’s day.
