Any Good? We Put Penneys’ €4 Kylie Lip Kit Dupes To The Test
The word around the Twittersphere is that the new Penneys lippies are a great dupe for Kylie's liquid lipsticks. We put the theory to the test so you don't have to.
Let’s get real here: every time Penneys comes out with a dupe for a high end product we all go a bit mad. It’s cheap as chips so we’re always hooked.
On our wish list right now? The PS. Lip Kit Matte Collection, retailing at a barg-tastic €4. I went into Penneys THREE times to get my claws on one of these bad boys and finally I nabbed the Chocolate Brownie shade for some Rihanna realness (needless to say I didn’t look like Rihanna after). There is also another shade called Cookie Dough but it seemed too orange for my skin tone.
Not surprisingly, people are saying that these lippies are a dupe for – you guessed it – Kylie Cosmetics Matte Lip Kits. I’ve tried the Kylie version and to be honest, I kind of hated it. (soz, Kyls. Read all about that experience here.) Could this bargaintastic dupe be better than its high-end counterpart? Let’s see.
First up on the testing table is the lip liner from the set. Kylie Cosmetics’ lip liners are made from pencil so I didn’t have that awkward wood feeling against my lips with this Penneys’ one as it had a softer applicator. Easy to apply, and a deadly colour payoff; it was a big thumbs up for me.
Next up, the matte liquid lipstick. Right of the bat, I thought the shade was a warm chocolate brown with a purple tint but it’s actually just brown, which is totally cool but just not what I expected from the packaging. The dofa applicator picks up just the right amount of product to distribute on your bottom and top lip.
My first impression was that the colour is super pigmented. I noticed it applied a little patchy so I added a second layer to even things out a bit. Sadly, the shade was a bit dark and out there for me and I wished I’d whitened my teeth before wearing it as the dark shade seemed to bring out my yellow tones. Another downshot? I went to the cinema after applying, and it didn’t survive the popcorn and coke.
All in all though, I felt pretty bad-ass wearing this so I would definitely recommend it for an edgy night out lippie, though be warned, top-ups will be required. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Penneys bring out more shades in this collection. I’d love if they released a ringer for Kandy K!
