Here’s What We Know About Sydney Sweeney’s New Romcom

Who doesn’t love a good romcom, a little bit of laughter and a couple of tummy butterflies – it’s the perfect recipe!

There’s just something about those late 90s/early 00s romcoms, that made everyone’s life a little better and while the genre took a break in producing decent movies for the last decade, we think they may be on the way back to the quality of movies like How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, She’s All That and 10 Things I Hate About You.

It was only last week we were chatting over here at STELLAR coming up with a list of actors we’d love to see in a romcom and Sydney Sweeney was one that popped up for everyone. Well it seems we won’t have much longer to wait!

Sydney is set to star alongside Top Gun: Maverick actor Glen Powell in a brand new romantic comedy entitled Anyone But You, it supposedly follows a pair of college arch nemesis as they reunite years after graduation for a wedding where they must pretend to date each other for their own personal reasons, but what happens when you throw two nemesis together and a fake dating trope? Well it always leads to an enemies to lovers plot… so get ready for the good stuff!

While at CinemaCon 2023 Sydney and Glen shared a few plot details about the R rated film (Irish age restriction of 18).

Glen reveals: “As you could probably guess, this movie’s about two people that hate each other. Sydney plays a character who is a real nightmare.”

Sydney added: “His character is a real d*ckhead.”

The Top Gun actor joked saying: “And what better place to put a nightmare and an a**hole than on the other side of the world in the most romantic setting imaginable?”

The brand new movie is directed by romcom expert, Will Gluck. The script was originally written by Ilana Wolpert but Will has since rewritten it, having adapted and directed movies like Easy A and Friends With Benefits in the past.

In a previous interview with Entertainment Tonight,  Sydney couldn’t hold her excitement for the movie in: “Just know the movie is going to be so much fun. It is so funny,” she said. “And it gives love, it gives humor, it gives sex. It gives all the great things that make a movie. And we want to bring back the good ol’ rom-coms with Will Gluck, and we’re having a great time doing it.”

Dermot Mulroney and Rachel Griffiths are the newest members to join the cast that Sydney and Glen are leading for Sony Studios, who landed the movie late last year after working it around our favourite Euphoria actress’ insane filming schedule.

Glen told InStyle at the 2023 Golden Globes that he was “super excited” about doing a romcom with his 25-year-old co-star who will also be an executive producer on the film.

It sounds like it’s going to be a romcom to add to our most iconic list.
