Here’s Why Harry Styles Turned Down A Role In The Little Mermaid

He could have been a Disney Prince!

Harry Styles was nearly a Disney prince!

The singer was almost one of the most iconic Disney princes there are, Prince Eric, Ariel’s love. We are all buzzing for the life action remake of The Little Mermaid which is hitting our screens this summer, but did you know that the busiest man in Hollywood Harry Styles was nearly in it?

Yep, Harry even met with the film’s director before opting out of the role to pursue darker movies, such as Don’t Worry Darling and My Policeman.

Director Rob Marshall explained the process to Entertainment Weekly; “We met with him. He was lovely. What a wonderful guy…But at the end of the day, he really felt like he wanted to go off and do the movies that he ended up doing, which were sort of darker.”

“For a lot of young musical people like Harry, you’re trying to carve your way and you don’t wanna be seen as a singer, necessarily,” the Chicago director noted. “That’s why he was really looking to do something not in the musical genre, to really stretch himself. It was really a fun idea to play with, but in the end, I always think things happen for a reason. I’m so happy to have two young, new people in the film,” he continued.

We would have loved to see Harry as the prince, but the movie looks just as amazing with its current cast. Jonah Hauer-King will be playing Price Eric now alongside Halle Bailey, who will be Ariel.

The cast also has many well-known names including Javier Bardem as King Triton, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina will voice the characters of Sebastian, Flounder and Scuttle.

We cannot wait!
