The excitement we have about the Barbie movie is barely contained, and a lot of this is down to the gorgeous and brilliant Margot Robbie stepping up to play the main character. Now it turns out that Margot accepted the film because of one thing in particular; diversity.

In an interview with Time Magazine, Margot explained that there were conditions for her when it came to the film. One of these involved acknowledging “certain things” so that audiences don’t feel that there is one particular image of “what Barbie is.”

She went on to say that if there wasn’t diversity among Barbie dolls already, she may not have accepted the role. Speaking about Mattel, she said if they “hadn’t made that change to have a multiplicity of Barbies, I don’t think I would have wanted to attempt to make a Barbie film.

“I don’t think you should say, ‘This is the one version of what Barbie is, and that’s what women should aspire to be and look like and act like.”

Could we love her any more? Yes, actually, we think we will – Barbie The Movie comes out July 21st.
