In a recent interview with  Vanity Fair, the Oscar nominated Paul Mescal opened up about why he will be keeping his private life, private from now on.

He explained that there is a “temptation” to correct any speculation about his personal life. In recent months rumours have been rife that he and his partner, Phoebe Bridgers have called time on their relationship.

However, he admits that’s not the ”wise” thing to do.

”When Normal People came out, I was very forthright in interviews, and it didn’t actually serve me. But the temptation still exists to be like, ‘Shut the fuck up. This is my life. This is what’s going on. Or this is what’s not going on’,” he confessed.

He explained that he will be keeping aspects of his life close to his chest, despite the fact he knows that will be ”difficult”.

”But giving strangers an answer about my life doesn’t actually help me. It’s like a quick boost of serotonin, being like, ‘I’ve said what I need to say.’ And then it’s just Twitter fodder,” he confesses.

Paul and Phoebe were first spotted together in the summer of 2020, making their red carpet debut late last year.

They have not yet addressed the breakup rumours, but fans have been speculating that Phoebe is hinting at their breakup in her song Ghost in the Machine, which she collabed with SZA on for her latest album.

The lyrics go like this: “You said all of my friends are on my payroll / You’re not wrong, you’re an a–hole,”

“Screaming at you in the Ludlow / I was yours for free,” and “on my own in an airport bar or hotel lobby.”

Phoebe confirmed the song was written just a week before the release meaning they worked on it at the end of November, which lines up with the timeline of the possible split.

The singer has been spotted hanging out with comedian Bo Burnham recently including at a The 1975 concert.

We will be watching this space.
