Kate Middleton’s Favourite Designer Has Apologised After Criticising Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress

This could get awkward...

After slamming Meghan Markle’s wedding dress, designer Emilia Wickstead has backtracked her her comments about it being a rip-off of her designs.

And it wasn’t just the similarity to her designs that she spoke out about. The designer, who is a favourite of Kate Middleton, also made comments about how the dress was “quite loose”.

As if that wasn’t enough, according to the Daily Mail, Wickstead criticised Meghan’s hair on her big day: “Hold the wisps back. It’s a royal wedding for God’s sake.”

Understandably, people were not impressed by the designers remarks. The Instagram account Diet Prada posted photos of Givenchy dresses throughout history which had similar details to Meghan’s dress, saying Wickstead got “her knickers in a twist” with claims of a rip off.

A more likely inspiration for Meghan Markle's Givenchy wedding dress than the first google image result for "Givenchy Audrey Hepburn wedding dress" most news outlets rushed to report on lol… Hubert's silk matelassé wedding dress, modeled by Audrey Hepburn in a 1964 issue of Vogue, was inspired by a set of silk and wool tapestries c1500 called "The Lady and the Unicorn", housed at the @museecluny in Paris.  The set presents a meditation on earthly pleasures and courtly culture, offered through an allegory of the senses. • #royalwedding #royal #royalfamily #meghanmarkle #princeharry #royalstyle #givenchy #clairewaightkeller #silk #bridal #weddingdress #couture #hautecouture #wedding #dress #gown #veil #tulle #crown #jewels #white #wiwt #ootd #dietprada

Since @emiliawickstead has gotten her knickers all in a twist over the supposed infringement of her groundbreaking design, here is yet another archival 1967 Givenchy wedding dress from the @chicagomuseum that may have served as inspiration for Clare Waight Keller’s Givenchy design. Different construction with the seaming and a more traditional boatneck than Keller's exaggerated version, but overall a strong resemblance with the relaxed trumpet silhouette vs. Wickstead's A-line skirt and fully bare shoulders.  Dieters, how do you feel about Wickstead going off on Markle/Givenchy?  Personally did not expect someone at her level to try and make this historic moment about herself smh. Pro tip: don’t bite the hand that feeds you if you want to keep cashing those royal paychecks lol • #royalwedding #royal #royalfamily #meghanmarkle #princeharry #royalstyle #givenchy #clairewaightkeller #emiliawickstead #chicagohistorymuseum #silk #bridal #weddingdress #couture #hautecouture #wedding #dress #gown #veil #tulle #crown #jewels #white #wiwt #ootd #dietprada

Now Wickstead has released a statement at how “extremely saddened” she is about the reports, and stated that Meghan “looked absolutely beautiful on her wedding day.”

People in the comment section of her post weren’t really buying the apology, however.
