What Is Laser Genesis? EYNTK About The Viral Skin Treatment
No, it's not as invasive as it sounds!
Lasers, needles, filler, and peels – the four horsemen of the skincare and aesthetics game.
It seems like every day there’s a new treatment and trending procedure, promising to give you plumper, brighter, more youthful looking skin.
A lot of these treatments may seem invasive – and a lot of them are.
While many people are happy to inject and endure, many aren’t. They’re seeking skincare treatments with zero downtime, immediate results, and of course, minimal pain.
When I first considered getting a laser treatment on my face, I anticipated pain. I expected to be scared, to be sore, to jolt when the sudden heat of the laser touched my skin.
But I hadn’t tried Laser Genesis yet, had I? Laser Genesis is a non-invasive treatment that uses mirco-pulses of energy to heat the upper layer of skin to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture.
And maybe most importantly (to me, anyway), it’s gentle on the skin.
Skincare expert Eavanna Breen explains: “Laser Genesis targets the fibroblast cells (the cells responsible for producing collagen), increasing the body’s natural healing processes, which in turn helps to smooth fine lines, reduces redness, and improves overall skin tone.
“It also helps to calm redness in the skin by sealing off vessels close to the skin’s surface. This treatment is versatile and can be used on various areas, including the face, neck, décolletage, and even the hands—essentially any area where skin rejuvenation is desired.”
So, how does it work? Your aesthetician or dermatologist will use a small wand connected to a large machine to gently heat the face. You’ll be wearing goggles or other similar eye protection.
The laser starts low, eventually increasing in temperature until it feels like the sun is shining on your skin. The laser targets fine lines and dark spots, by creating new skin cells and collagen.
The entire treatment takes about 30 minutes and requires minimal downtime, so in theory, you could pop in for one on your lunch break, and go right back to the office afterwards.
In order to see what all of the hype was about, I did just that.
I went to ORA Skin Clinic in Sandyford for my Laser Genesis treatment. It was part of a larger skin package – the Flawless Filter Facial – a high performance skin treatment that is tailored exactly to your skin needs.
The Flawless Filter Facial started with a double cleanse, followed by a corrective peel to renew the skin’s complexion. My skin is generally very bright, but I do have a lot of unevenness and redness, making me the ideal candidate for a peel and laser.
The corrective peel was tingly, but much like the laser later, it was not at all uncomfortable. Rather, it was nice to know that the product on my face was active, and actually doing something.
Next, my aesthetician started on the Laser Genesis. She told me that the treatment would begin with a low temperature, eventually rising to heat the lower dermis and stimulate collagen production.
She also told me that the laser feels a little bit like lying out in the sun on holidays – and it really did! If you had’ve told me I was tanning on a lounger in Portugal, rather than lying in a clinic in South Dublin, I nearly would’ve believed you.
The entire process took about 15 minutes (my laser treatment was a bit shorter than standard because I was getting it as part of a package) and was completely painless.
The laser felt hot and I could feel it moving around my face, but it wasn’t sore, and although some clients can sometimes be left with slight redness after the treatment, I didn’t have any side effects.
A cooling mask was followed by 15 minutes of Red Light Therapy and then I was done. I went back to work and topped up my skincare routine with Skinceuticals’ Hydrating B and C E Ferulic products.
Eavanna says that treatments like Laser Genesis are becoming increasingly popular because they don’t require lengthy recovery periods, while still providing noticeable improvements.
“With busy lifestyles and a growing focus on preventative skincare, there is a clear trend toward treatments that allow for quick recovery, natural-looking results, and minimal disruption to daily life,” she says.
“We’re definitely seeing an uptake in interest and patient inquiries about these kinds of procedures.”
So, what results did I see from my foray into the Laser Genesis world? Well, right after the treatment my skin felt significantly plumper and hydrated. I was, for a lack of a better word, glowing.
Now, over a week on and my skin is still maintaining that pump glow. My face still has some redness but it’s not as patchy as before, something that the recommended 4-6 sessions of Laser Genesis would no doubt make a dent in.
The treatment was quick, easy, and most importantly, painless. 10/10, would laser again.
