Did Harry Styles Really Chop His Hair Off? Here’s Everything We Know

Harry Styles has been threatening to shear his long locks for months now, and over the weekend it appeared he really had gone for the chop.

Things kicked off when the singer posted this photo on Saturday, showing a hand holding a long brown ponytail, with the caption “Whoops.”

Cue widespread hysteria among Directioners, who began the frantic search for a picture of Harry with his new hair. But there was nothing. No selfies, no blurry paparazzi shots. NOTHING.

Then suddenly, this photo started doing the rounds on Twitter. Posted by vlogger Ellis Lacy, the photo appeared to show Harry with a shorter brown cut, looking absolutely gorgeous.

As is to be expected, the image soon went viral, racking up thousands of shares on Twitter and Facebook.

But when Ellis posted a follow-up video, it became clear he had trolled us all using Snapchat’s Faceswap filter:

So did Harry really cut his hair off, or is this all some giant global prank? While no photos have appeared online yet, the fact that Harry hashtagged the Little Princess Trust in his original ponytail snap would suggest he is not in fact trolling us all.

The trust accepts hair donations from people all over the world, using them to make wigs for childhood cancer patients. And given the charity’s delighted social media posts following Harry’s mention, it would seem they really were expecting a hair donation from him:

So there you have it. Either Harry’s a good sort who cut his hair off for charity and is trying to keep his new look under wraps, or he’s the biggest troll the internet has ever known. Fingers crossed for the former.
