Eek! Little Mix Are Having None Of Those Claims That They Ripped Off Another Girl Band’s Song
Loads of fans took to Twitter to say their new hit Shoutout To My Ex sounded just like G.R.L.'s Ugly Heart.
When Little Mix took to the X Factor stage last week to perform their new song Shoutout To My Ex, it was all Twitter could talk about, but though the girl’s put in an absolutely stellar performance, not all of the reviews were glowing.
In fact, many fans accused Little Mix of ripping of G.R.L’s 2014 hit Ugly Heart.
G.R.L. didn’t seem to happy about the similarities either, tweeting “ShoutOutToMyUglyHeart” in the middle of the all drama.
Up until now, Little Mix have remained schtum about the accusations but they finally confronted the criticism on Belgian radio station Q Music.
“Every song is going to have a similar chord sequence, slightly similar lyrics and melody,” Jade explained. “It happens all the time. It doesn’t mean that they’re not both incredible songs.
“I think maybe because it was a girl band as well,” she added. “I just think people like to have something negative to say”
That wasn’t the only controversy the girls confronted on the show. They also addressed comments made by Mel C that slammed the girls for dressing too provocatively.
“I think the Spice Girls wore some similar costumes back in the day,” Jade mused, with Jesy adding “I could find a few pics on Google of those.”
Thankfully though there doesn’t seem to be any hard feelings.
“We love the Spice Girls but I mean I feel like Mel C you were provocative in your day,” Jessy added. “People forget when we were on the X Factor we were a lot younger, we’re women now, we’re older and our style has evolved.”
“We encourage girls to wear whatever they want,” Jade concluded. “If you want to wear a leotard, wear a leotard.”
That’s right girls, you do you.
