GBBO’s New Owner Channel 4 Just Wrote Something WAY Harsh About Mary Berry

Prepare yourselves for Armageddon, Bake Off lovers. The end is nigh.

Following confirmation last week that Love Productions had sold the rights of The Great British Bake Off to Channel 4, presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins announced their decision to quit the show and stay in solidarity with the BBC.

Still, we clung onto the last shred of hope that the show was salvageable. We still had Mary and Paul, right? RIGHT? Well, not anymore, it would appear. In a statement released by the BBC this morning, Mary confirmed that she would not be moving to Channel 4 with the new version of the show, calling it a “privilege and honour to be part of seven years of magic in a tent.”

While Mary has chosen to stay with the BBC “out of loyalty,” Paul Hollywood will indeed be moving to Channel 4 as part of a reported three-year deal. That’s all well and good, but it’s the statement from C4’s station head Jay Hunt this morning that isn’t sitting easily with us.

“Paul really is the star baker – an exceptional talent with a twinkle in his eye. His wit, warmth and wisdom are vital ingredients in Bake Off‘s success,” Jay said.

The star baker? Paul? No thank you. That title is reserved for Mary Berry, her beautiful sponges and her on-point floral bombers. Nobody else.
